Optical frequency up-conversion by supercontinuum-free widely-tunable fiber-optic Cherenkov radiation.

چکیده
Spectrally-isolated narrowband Cherenkov radiation from commercial nonlinear photonic crystal fibers is demonstrated as an ultrafast optical source with a visible tuning range of 485-690 nm, which complementarily extends the near-infrared tuning range of 690-1020 nm from the corresponding femtosecond Ti:sapphire pump laser. Pump-tosignal conversion efficiency routinely surpasses 10%, enabling multimilliwatt visible output across the entire tuning range. Appropriate selection of fiber parameters and pumping conditions efficiently suppresses the supercontinuum generation typically associated with Cherenkov radiation.

Progress in Cherenkov femtosecond fiber lasers.
We review the recent developments in the field of ultrafast Cherenkov fiber lasers. Two essential properties of such laser systems - broad wavelength tunability and high efficiency of Cherenkov radiation wavelength conversion are discussed. The exceptional performance of the Cherenkov fiber laser systems are highlighted - dependent on the realization scheme, the Cherenkov lasers can generate th...
متن کاملNoise characterization of broadband fiber Cherenkov radiation as a visible-wavelength source for optical coherence tomography and two-photon fluorescence microscopy.
Optical sources in the visible region immediately adjacent to the near-infrared biological optical window are preferred in imaging techniques such as spectroscopic optical coherence tomography of endogenous absorptive molecules and two-photon fluorescence microscopy of intrinsic fluorophores. However, existing sources based on fiber supercontinuum generation are known to have high relative inte...
متن کاملFiber-probe detection for positron-emission-assisted Cherenkov-radiation brain mapping.
Suitably designed optical fibers are shown to offer a powerful tool for functional brain mapping, facilitating the detection of Cherenkov radiation generated by relativistic positrons from positron-emitting radionuclides. Fiber probes support a low-loss delivery of the high-intensity short-wavelength part of the Cherenkov spectrum, which is strongly absorbed by biotissues, and lower the thresho...
متن کاملSolitonics effects in supercontinuum generation in highly nonlinear fibers
When ultrashort pulses with large enough power are launched into highly nonlinear fibers, soliton fission gives origin to multiple fundamental solitons of different widths and peak powers. Two soliton related effects become then particularly important in the context of supercontinuum generation: the soliton self-frequency shift and the emission of dispersive radiation in the normal dispersion r...
متن کاملSupercontinuum Generation in a Highly Nonlinear Chalcogenide/ MgF2 Hybrid Photonic Crystal Fiber
In this paper, we report the numerical analysis of a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) for generating an efficient supercontinuum medium. For our computational studies, the core of the proposed structure is made up of As2Se3 and the cladding structure consists of an inner ring of holes made up As2Se3 and four outer rings of air holes in MgF2. The proposed structure provides excellent nonlinear coeff...
